Safe-T-Zone Pool Winterizing Kit Instructions

Winterizing Your Pool: A Guide to a Successful Closing and Easy Spring Opening

As the swimming season comes to an end, it's time to prepare your pool for the winter months ahead. Proper winterization is crucial for maintaining your pool's health and ensuring an easy opening come spring. One product that can help you achieve this is the Safe-T-Zone Winterizing Kit for Mesh Covered Pools.

Why Winterize Your Pool?

Winterizing your pool protects it from damage caused by freezing temperatures and prevents algae growth during the off-season. A well-winterized pool also makes for a smoother, less time-consuming opening process when warmer weather returns.

The Safe-T-Zone Winterizing Kit

The Safe-T-Zone Winter Pool Kit s specifically designed for pools up to 30,000 gallons that use mesh safety covers. This comprehensive kit includes everything you need to close your pool effectively:

  1. 4-Pound Tablet Floater: Contains patented borate oxidizers and enzymes to control algae growth, stabilize pH, and reduce corrosion.
  2. Stain & Scale Control: Prevents staining and reduces calcium deposits.
  3. Powerful Winterizing Algaecide: Keeps algae growth at bay throughout the winter months.
  4. Phos-X Phosphate Remover: Reduces phosphate levels, effectively starving algae of its food source.

Safe-T-Zone Kit With Phos-X Instructions

Do not winterize pool until water is all clear of algae, dirt, leaves and pH is properly balanced.

  1. Stop chlorination 24 hours prior to winterizing.
  2. Before continuing, be sure lowering of pool water, draining of lines and winterizing of pump, filter, heater and other equipment has been completed. If you use anti-freeze, add it to your system at this time.
  3. Pour entire contents of winterizing algaecide into pool making sure it is distributed evenly.
  4. Squirt entire bottle of Phos-X over the surface of the pool.
  5. Pour the bottle of stain & scale preventative into pool, distributing evenly over pool.
  6. To install the floater with the foam collar: place foam flotation collar under the largest diameter. Punch hole #2 and exit hole on opposite side of bottle. Also, punch out any 4 holes on bottom of the canister. Place cartridge in pool, smallest diameter down, allowing water to enter. Do not throw in pool.
  7. Cover pool; the use of a good winter pool cover will keep wind blown debris, animals and even children out of pool. Covers cut out sunlight, thus minimizing the possibility of algae growth and can prevent stains caused by leaves.

Additional Notes

  1. If the winter season is unusually warm, add additional winterizing algaecide.
  2. The winter chemicals will cause the unfilterable particles to clump together and settle to the bottom during the winter, leaving clear water. It is best to vacuum material to waste in the spring.

Tips for a Successful Pool Closing

  1. Timing is Everything: Close your pool when the water temperature consistently stays below 65°F (18°C) to discourage algae growth.
  2. Clean Thoroughly: Before adding winterizing chemicals, ensure your pool is free of debris and the water is balanced.
  3. Lower Water Level: For pools with mesh covers, lower the water level below the skimmer to prevent freezing damage.
  4. Add Winterizing Chemicals: Use the Safe-T-Zone kit as directed. The combination of algaecide, phosphate remover, and stain prevention will keep your pool in top condition.
  5. Install the Floater: Place the tablet floater in the pool to slowly release chemicals throughout the winter.
  6. Cover Properly: Install your mesh safety cover securely to keep out debris while allowing water to pass through.
